Life continues…

It has been a busy and trying time over the last week or so but I am going to do my best to catch up.  Let me begin by saying that on May 17th my beautiful, wonderful little Beans turned 6.  It was a kind of bittersweet birthday but we did our best to make it fun.  She chose to go to Texas Roadhouse for supper (or the peanut place as her and Mini call it).  We had a good time and she had a blast getting up on the saddle and yelling, “Yeehaw I’m a cowgirl” while the whole place wished her a Happy Birthday.  She got a paper jam drum set and paper jam guitar – I think Dad might have more fun with the drums, lol!

The 19th was the day that I knew was going to be tough for all of us…Nana’s funeral.  But, I am happy to say that as soon as the urn was brought to the church I literally felt my Nana with me and it felt as if a weight was lifted.  I was honored to be able to bring up the gifts at the beginning of the ceremony and when the great-grandchildren brought up the communion gifts it brought a tear to my eye.  I stayed pretty strong during the mass but when my Papa went up and took communion he looked so alone, even though he was surrounded by more love than he had been in his whole life.  As he walked by he grabbed my hand and the tears flowed – not really for the loss of my Nana (although that was certainly part of it) but for the ache I felt in my heart for this wonderful man who now looked all alone.  I know that he is surrounded by so many people that love him but it is not the same as sharing his life, house and love with the woman he devoted his life to for 57 years.  I believe that he will be fine but think it will take some time for him to truly accept what has happened.

We had planned to go to Milwaukee for Beans birthday before all of this happened so we decided to keep our plans.  We had a wonderful weekend!  We drove down Friday, went to the mall and did some shopping, went out to eat and hung out at the pool…we were the only ones down there.  On Saturday our plan was to go to the zoo and we were thrilled that we were able to make it through the zoo before the rain hit.  It was so nice to be able to get through the zoo without a ton of people to fight and to actually be able to get to the exhibits.  We were trying to get tickets to the Brewer game but they were sold out so we decided to go and see the new “Pirates” movie in 3D – the girls love them and get such a kick out of Jack Sparrow.  It was just nice to get away for a little bit and spend time together as a family.

On our way home Sunday we stopped by an old high school friend who I hadn’t seen in about 20 years – it is amazing how much time passes and how fast it goes!  She was having a rummage sale and is around my size so I wanted to stop.  Got TONS of new clothes and some new bedding and got to catch up for a little bit.  You realize how fast time goes, thankfully we have decided not to be strangers:)

Well, off to work I go.  The girls will be home soon and I am making Nana’s BBQ Cheese Stuffed Meatloaf for supper – the girls have been asking for it:)
